The Founder
This is what we believe a founder is. Not a title, a way of operating.
Here's what we look for, and what we try to become.
You know how to sell.
Nothing exists until someone pays for it. Selling isn't a department you hire later, it's how you find out whether the thing in your head is real.
You know how to raise money.
Not because money is the goal, but because the ability to get it on your terms decides who you answer to. You raise from momentum, never from desperation.
You know how to iterate.
Version one is a question, not an answer. You don't win by guessing right, you win by cycling fastest between guess and evidence.
You know how to think in systems.
You don't fix the same problem twice. Every fire is a symptom of a process that doesn't exist yet. You build the machine, then let the machine do the work.
You know how to spot talent.
One right hire moves more than a quarter of your own effort. You look for slope, not position: hunger, judgment, and how someone behaves when nobody's watching.
You know how to manage.
Clear expectations, honest feedback, and getting out of the way. Most people don't underperform because they're weak; they underperform because nobody told them the truth.
You know how to stay sane under pressure.
Sleep, train, keep one person who isn't impressed by you. The company can't survive a founder who burns down.
You know how to get over your fears.
The call, the ask, the launch, the hard conversation. Everything you want sits behind something you're avoiding. You move before you feel ready — the feeling comes after.
